Freshman Orientation is held every year during the week before fall classes begin. After they take their oath the new recruits get their hair cut and are ready for a brief indoctrination on the Navy, Marine Corps, and the NROTC program. They learn how to iron and take care of their uniforms, learn their General Orders, how to march and drill, among other things nessessary to become a Midshipman. Physical fitness is also a part of NSO, so at the end of the week, after doing push-ups, sit-ups, and running every morning, they take a practice PRT(physical readiness test) which is a 1.5 mile run along with push-ups and sit-ups. At the end of the week they are finally recognized as Midshipmen and everyone is invited to a picnic, along with many of the 3/C, 2/C, and 1/C Midshipmen. It's a time to congratulate and get to know each other, and help answer any questions they might have.
