How To Apply

Information about applying to U of M, St. Thomas, Macalester and NROTC scholarships.

In order to participate in the University of Minnesota NROTC program on a scholarship, you must be accepted both by the NROTC program and by one of the above universities. This involves two distinct application processes.

STEP 1:

Admissions information for individual schools:

U of MN

http://admissions.tc.umn.edu/

St. Thomas

http://www.stthomas.edu/admissions/undergraduate/default.asp

Macalester

http://www.macalester.edu/admissions/

STEP 2:

Option #1

Application for NROTC Scholarships:

For a complete guide in applying as well as the online application for any Navy, Marine, or Nurse Option Scholarship please refer to the national NROTC website at: https://www.nrotc.navy.mil

If you have further questions about applying for any Navy/Marine ROTC Scholarship or Nurse Option program please contact LT Schulze at (612) 625-1030.

Option # 2

Application for NROTC College Program:

If you did not apply or receive a Navy/Marine ROTC scholarship you can still fully participate in the University of Minnesota's Navy ROTC program.

While there is no hard deadline for College Program applications, you should allow time for us to recieve your application, schedule and conduct the interview, and get you here for New Student Orientation week on August 28, 2003.  You should get the package in by the end of July.

Please print out and fill in the following forms (in ink).  Answer all questions to the best of your knowledge.

Instructions - Instructions that can be printed off

NROTC College Program Application - This is a form that tells us about you.

Report of Medical History - This must be signed and/or certified by a physician.  Please be complete.  If you do not reveal a medical problem, it will only get worse down the road when you go through the medical qualification process for scholarships and/or commissioning.  Few problems are disqualifying, and if a disqualifying problem can be waived the unit will do its best to get you qualified.  Please call if you have a question about a medical condition.

Request for Reference - (Submit two separate references) Should be filled out by an adult who knows you well and is not a family member.  Ideally, it would be someone in a position of authority with the ability to observe the characteristics listed on the forms.  People like teachers, school administrators, counselors, bosses, coaches, etc.

In addition to these forms, a complete application must include:
High School Transcripts
College Transcripts (if any)
Copy of ACT/SAT Scores
Proof of citizenship - Notorized COPY (not the original) of your Birth Certificate
Personal Statement - 1 to 2 pages in length.  Please tell us why you want to join the Navy ROTC and pursue a commission as a naval officer.

When your package is complete, forward it to:
